If you have an issue with the operation of your SteelTop Canopy central locking.

To determine what the issue may be with your side window on your SteelTop canopy:
The central lock signal from the vehicle goes to two places in the canopy

  1. The rear door
  2. The control module for the side windows

Rear door AND side windows not working?:

If the rear door AND side windows are not locking/unlocking, the issue is likely to be the central lock signal from the vehicle.  Trace the blue and green wire connection from the canopy to the front of the vehicle.  Check the in-line fuses on the blue and green wires at this connection.  Usually under the kick panel near the front door footwell.

Rear door is locking/unlocking OK, but the side windows are not working?:

  • Check the Power supply:

The side windows are controlled by a control module that is in a small panel in the roof by the interior light.  The same power for the light also powers the lock control module.  There must be constant power to this all the time.  i.e. connected to battery supply.  Check that the light works.

Remove the panel on the roof to expose the control module.

Check the plugs at both ends are seated correctly.

Check there is power to the input side (large block on one side of module).  It needs to be 12v constant.  Also check the size of the fuse where the wre connects to the constant power feed. Use 15Amp fuse.

  • One or neither of the window release buttons work?:

We need to determine if the issue is with the physical release/alignment of the window striker, the release push button, or the control module.

Is it physical or electrical issue?  i.e. when you push the button to release the window, if you hear a small ‘click’ from the solenoid release, it is likely the window is physically stuck.  Release the window from inside the canopy using the small tabs on the silver solenoid. Check striker alignment and lube the solenoid and rotating latch. Re-test.

If there is no ‘click’ (no signal).  Check the buttons.  Undo the small panel in the roof of the canopy. Puch in the 4 small push-pins approx 5mm.  The panel will then pull down.
There are two white plugs with red and blue wires. These are the signal wires from the left and right switches/buttons.  Unplug one. In the male end of the plug, briefly touch short/close the plug connections (mimic the momentary switch) with screwdriver.  If you are able to make the solenoid ‘click’, the it is likely the switch on that side has failed.  Replacement is available. Repeat for both sides.
Using a multi-meter, test the female end of the red blue wires to check that the switch is making closure/contact.
Contact us for a replacement switch/es if required.

If you determine that the switches are operational and making close/contact as expected, then there may be an issue with the control module.  This is the final item to check.

Remove the control module from the panel (carefully cut self adhesive tape with knife).  Unscrew the back of the case.  There is a small glass fuse inside.  Check this.
Fuse is 5.0A 5x20mm glass fuse.

Once you have checked all the above, please contact us for replacement parts as required.
